About DropÑPS
DropÑPS (╥DPS╙) is a utility to send text files containing PostScript¬
code to any PostScript printer connected to an AppleTalk¬ network. To
send a file, folder full of files, or disk full of files, simply drop
it onto the DPS application or an alias to the application. You can
also drop multiple files, folders, or disks at once.
(DPS can also download EPSF-format files.)
DPS does its work independently of any installed printer drivers, so you
don╒t need to have the LaserWriter driver installed. DPS is System 7-
compatible, 32-bit clean, and 68040- and Power Macintosh-compatible.
When you run DPS for the first time, it will ask you to choose a
printer. Thereafter, items that you drop onto DPS will be downloaded to
that printer. (The name and zone of the currently selected printer are
displayed in the window that DPS opens up when you launch it without
any documents.) You can change the printer by using the
╥Preferences...╙ command from the File menu. DPS remembers your choice
across launches.
In the Preferences dialog, you can determine whether DropÑPS prepends a
PostScript title header (version 2.0), and whether the settings are
stored within the DropÑPS application itself, or in a separate
preferences file. (Storing settings in the DropÑPS application can be
useful if you would like to set up multiple copies of DPS, with each
one set to send to a different printer.)
DropÑPS is based on DropShell, by Leonard Rosenthol et. al., and also
contains code written for GCC Technologies. Distribution is with the
permission of GCC Technologies.
DropÑPS is free, and may be freely distributed by and for any
non-commercial or non-profit venture. You may not charge for DropÑPS
above and beyond any routine connect-time and downloading charges. You
may not re-distribute DropÑPS as part of a commercial product, or use
it as incentive to purchase a product, without the express written
permission of Bare Bones Software, Inc.
DropÑPS is part of a growing family of fine commercial and freeware
products from Bare Bones Software. For additional information, send

Update Notes
------ -----
Version 1.1.3
- Fixed bug which prevented Drop*PS from seeing printers in
zones other than the default one.
Version 1.1.2
- Cured 64-printer limit on the number of printers shown in
the device-chooser dialog; the new limit is 512.
- DPS no longer remembers the numeric network ID of the printer,
which should resolve timeouts which would occur on busy networks
when the printer was restarted between invocations of DPS.
Version 1.1.1
- Fixed bug in which error alert would appear offscreen, leading
the user to believe that DPS was hung.
Version 1.1
- added ability to download EPSF files.
- extended Preferences to support saving within DPS itself,
and to provide for prepending PostScript title information.
- made internal changes which make it easier to use DPS as
a scriptable component.
- fixed deviant behavior that would occur if the selected
printer became unavailable.
